Art Club News Jan 25 (as appearing in Hagley Village News)
January is so-called after the two-faced god Janus as he looks backwards and but also forwards to the future. And yes, we are looking back to our Annual Exhibition and remembering our opening with footballer-turned-artist Jody Craddock picking his choice of favourite pieces which incidentally also mirrored the paintings that won the popular vote. The highest number of votes went to Gerry Stokes with his lovely nostalgic painting “Three’s a Crowd”, second place went to the atmospheric “Snow Showers” by Jacqueline Bradley and third place, was “Uncle Harry’s Cottage” by Bob Swingler.
So now to the looking forward, and continuing our reflection of our industrial heritage, after seeing Keith Turley’s excellent Industrial Landscape we move on to Architecture with a talk by David Birtwhistle on his Art/Historic Architecture/Landscape. What an intellectual group we are becoming!
Remember to check out our other exhibition at Himley Hall, which has been moved from October to 12 December. There’s no hurry, though; it’s on until 4 April.
